Dr. Maria Pia Canales completed her doctoral degree in dentistry at Université de Montréal in 2012. She then pursued a one year advanced training residency in general dentistry at Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
When she was working in a private practice in Montreal as a general dentist, she discovered a passion for esthetics and orthodontics. This pushed her to complete another three year residency program in orthondontics at the University of Western Ontario.
During her residency training, she received numerous awards, such as the PJ Blake excellence award and the Charley Schultz young research investigator award. She presented her research in the field of orthodontics at national and international meetings such as the American Association of Orthodontics and the Canadian Association of Orthodontics annual meetings. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in orthodontics, and a member of the Ordre des Dentistes du Québec, the Association des Orthodontistes du Québec, the American Association of Orthodontics and the Societa Italiana di Orthondonthia. She also teaches clinical dentistry at McGill University.
